Prayer Vigil Tonight

Prayer Vigil Tonight

Lifesite News has picked up the story on tonight’s prayer vigil in Lafayette. You can read about it here and learn about one of the organizing groups, Catholics for Unity and Peace.

Throughout this difficult moment in the Church’s history, it is indeed encouraging to see area Catholics coming together to express both their worries and hopes for the future of our Faith in this diocese.

If you are in attendance, let us know your experiences this evening in the comments.

  1. I agree with comments below- CM is easily written off (whether they are right or wrong) and do not help the people in the Diocese of Lafayette in Indiana. I am concerned that the Bishop will write this whole thing off- even the very real and important concerns with the absolute mess that is UinH- if we keep going down this road.

    1. “Concerned that the Bishop will write this whole thing off….”?!?!? From the beginning he’s been about as detached as a human being can be without registering room temperature. CM’s opinion means about as much to him as mine, yours, the clergy’s, the people of the diocese, the USCCB, heck probably even the Vatican’s (and that’s assuming people besides us even know where our diocese is). No, this fight for sanity in our local church is ours. It’s nice getting noticed, but there are so much bigger fish to fry out there for the media. They’ll move on. And that’s fine. Even the pathetic socialist mob moved on when they realized what a lousy media draw our little diocese actually is.

So now that our 15-minutes of fame is nearly over, we laity can go back to what we were doing that will make a difference in time: praying, fasting, receiving the sacraments while we have them, praying some more, writing, tithing responsibly, and praying.

    1. I support Fr. Rothrock. But why did this piece need to include unflattering video clips of Fr. Richard Doerr? Sensationalism? What “Catholic” would share this for national publication? Why do Catholics tear apart their own? If I wasn’t Catholic, or was a lukewarm Catholic & saw this, I would run from the Church.

      1. The priests have been ordered not to engage media outfits like CM, but do what they did: lock the doors, call the cops. Their hands are tied. I don’t fault the clergy at all. They’re muzzled. CM is just working with what they got and what they know, which in this case is a lot of first impressions and stories from the laity they spoke with. Of course they’re not going to get the full picture given the short time they were town. But if it’s true that folks are barraging them with information, they’ll have plenty more to work with for a more in-depth follow-up later.

Also, you confuse “tearing apart your own” with “holding people accountable”. And terrible leadership, bad catechesis, and bishops accepting the premise that church is “non-essential” during a health-crisis has all but sealed the fate of lukewarm Catholics. They are long-gone. And the proof of this will be when the mass-dispensation is lifted and people you remember going to mass aren’t there anymore.

        1. My point is the video clips of Fr. Doerr making comments in a kayak or while in a car had absolutely nothing to do with Fr. Rothrock, the Bishop, BLM or any of this. It was inflammatory. It comes across as a very intentional hit job on Fr. Doerr. It dilutes the credibility of the rest of content. It made Church Militant look no better than the National Enquirer.

          1. The problem with CM is that they don’t help OUR cause. They make all of us look like loonie bins. As soon as they appeared on the scene, the very GOOD people who are interviewed get kicked to the curb by the bishop…again. He will listen even less to anyone now, if that is possible. And priests might get blamed for their unruly flock. CM helps no one but themselves.
I think we are stuck. Is anyone in the Vatican going to seriously care about a little nothing diocese in the middle of Indiana? No. In the grand scheme of the Vatican, we are just a speck on the landscape. They need our money, as does the USCCB, but other than that, they don’t care. Archbishop Gomez has his own huge problems, given the socialist mess of his state. Our episcopal problem is all small potatoes to anyone outside of this diocese. I truly think we are going to have to, NEED to walk this way of the Cross we have been given. Pray and fast more, and pray for our priests who are suffering a lot more than we are. We have a mess at this present moment, but we are up to the challenge of prayer and fasting. One more thing….give to the Seminarian Fund. This is the one fund that is for our benefit. Fund our future priests’ education. If you don’t, then more churches will close come 2030. Be generous.

          2. I agree about those misc. clips of Fr. Doerr, however, they kind of brought it on themselves. Rather than running CM out and calling the cops on them, they could have just declined to comment, and ignored them. By calling the cops, they showed hostility. This added fuel to the CM video. I’m sure the CM people were irritated by having the cops called on them, TWICE. So they clearly looked up Fr. Doerr and found some unflattering clips to add to their video. Definitely not vey professional of CM, but I get why it happened.

          3. Agreed with JF about the seminarian fund. All of my fruitful harvest tax has been redirected to the seminarian fund. I sincerely hope the diocese doesn’t put it’s grubby little fingers into the seminarian fund jar to use it for any other purposes.

          4. Sorry, but I disagree. CM is pugnacious, but they are tenacious and experienced journalists, and the theology of their programming is solidly orthodox. They take no prisoners and lob firebombs of truth. It’s time to realize we are in a war, and we need to call people to account and fight to protect and preserve Holy Mother Church. Fr. Doerr is a good priest, but locking doors and calling the police may not have been the best course of action. If that earned him a silly video in CM’s coverage, so what? I’m just happy to have someone exposing the truth about what’s going on.

        2. Yeah, I agree about Fr. Doerr, this stuff was not his fault and he didn’t deserve to get picked on. But I think people kind of know that about CM, that they like to sensationalize. BUT in their defense, they also say stuff sometimes that basically is what everyone is thinking but nobody wants to say out loud. They are kind of loose cannons, but whose fault is it that they ever became involved anyway? This thing was totally mismanaged by our bishop from start to finish, inviting the scandal and spotlight from the outside. Literally just “running away” from his own people with an armed police guard when they have questions, and making the priests do the same. A case of “play stupid games, win stupid prizes”, unfortunately.

  2. The rain is gone, the skies are blue, the temperature has dropped. Feels great outside, and the forecast looks pretty good for 6-8. See you all there!
